Rev. Brian D. Bennett

The Bennett FamilyI began my career in education as a teacher and coach in Battle Public Schools in Battle Creek, MI. I began pursuing ministry through First Wesleyan church in Battle Creek, MI in 2002. I have served as a licensed minister with the Wesleyan church since 2005. I completed my Master’s degree through Fuller Theological seminary in 2008 and was ordained by the Wesleyan church in 2008. My passion first and foremost, though, is learning to passionately follow Jesus, joyfully serve others, and help others to do the same.

In 2003, my beautiful bride Cindy and I (married happily since 2001) first sensed the call to plant a church. In February of 2007, God clearly called us to plant Overflow Community Church in Benton Harbor, Michigan ( The call to start a multi-ethnic, missional work was one that came very clearly as we discovered the radical economic and racial polarization that existed in the community. Overflow Church founded the Overflow Christian Community Development Association (OCCDA) in 2009, which recently changed its name to Mosaic Christian Community Development (, and is continuing to bring people together in an effort to transform the community with Christ’s love for all people.

Currently, Cindy and myself, and our three children, Hannah and Dawson, Elle are enjoying living in Benton Harbor and all that Lake Michigan beaches have to offer. I personally enjoy hanging out with family and friends, reading and attempting to get back into shape. It’s a great life!

Random Fact About Me

I love the outdoors and animals when they are in the outdoors and cannot touch me. Basically zoo’s work great for me as I love His creation, but not when it can reach out and touch me!

Hope for Overflow Church

That we would journey together and learn how to passionately follow Jesus and joyfully serve others in a way that encourages others to do the same!

Hope for Our Community

That Benton Harbor/St. Joseph would become known as a place where God did something miraculous and historic in our generation through a Christ-centered movement. That what happens in our region would bring God great glory because the walls of division had fallen at the feet of the cross, a region had been transformed, and a nation/world inspired.
